A beautiful photo by Igor Siwanowicz Thank you for letting me share your work! Be sure to check out his facebook page: facebook.com/blepharopsis • The saddleback caterpillar • The saddleback caterpillar, Acharia stimulea (formerly Sibine stimulea), is the larva of a species of moth native to eastern North America. It is also found in Mexico and Central America and possibly in the northern part of South America. The species belongs to the family of slug caterpillars, Limacodidae. The caterpillar is primarily green with brown at either end and a prominent white-ringed brown dot in the center which resembles a saddle. It has a pair of fleshy horns at either end. These and most of the rest of the body bear urticating hairs that secrete an irritating venom. Contact with the hairs causes a painful, swollen rash and sometimes nausea in humans. The hairs should be removed from the skin immediately to prevent more venom spread. The cocoon may also have irritating hairs and hairs from the larva can fall on surrounding objects • #saddleback #caterpillar ##naturelove #naturelovers #nature #insect #insects #fact #facts #world #savetheplanet #earth #forest #entomology #naturehike #naturelovers #natureisbeautiful #nature #naturewalk #naturephotograph #dayshots #insectsofinstagram #photooftheday #fauna #natureshooters

A beautiful photo by Igor Siwanowicz Thank you for letting me share your work! Be sure to check out his facebook page: facebook.com/blepharopsis • The Praying Mantis • Mantids are unique among insects in their ability to turn their heads a full 180 degrees. Try to sneak up on a praying mantis, and you may be startled when it looks over its shoulder at you. No other insect can do so. Praying mantids have a flexible joint between the head and prothorax that enables them to swivel their heads. This ability, along with their rather humanoid faces and long, grasping forelegs, endears them to even the most entomophobic people among us. Aaaaaand... BPA 2018 is now LIVE! The all new website allows you to register with us, upload images and choose which charities to support. @savebutterflies is just one of the very important charities that we have onboard this year. Celebrating their 50th year, they do some incredibly important work monitoring various marker species that reflect our ecological wellbeing. On top of this they preserve habitat and educate people on their work. Read more about them on the link on our bio. We can't wait to see your entries this year!

Be sure to show some support and give this gallery a visit! Tag #insectguru for a chance to be featured. • Orb weavers • Many orb-weavers build a new web each day. Most orb-weavers tend to be active during the evening hours; they hide for most of the day. Generally, towards evening, the spider will consume the old web, rest for approximately an hour, then spin a new web in the same general location. Thus, the webs of orb-weavers are generally free of the accumulation of detritus common to other species, such as black widow spiders. • #spider #spiders #spidersofinstagram #arthropod #naturelove #naturelovers #nature #insect #insects #fact #facts #world #savetheplanet #earth #forest #entomology #naturehike #naturelovers #natureisbeautiful #nature #naturewalk #naturephotograph #dayshots #insectsofinstagram #photooftheday #fauna #natureshooters "Nice !!! The grapevine beetle is a member of the subfamily Rutelinae of the Scarab beetle family. These potentially destructive beetles are known as shining leaf chafers. Adult chafers eat the leaves and flowers of many deciduous trees, shrubs and other plants, but rarely cause any serious damage. However, their fat, white grubs (reaching 40-45 mm long when full grown) live in the soil and feed on plant roots, especially those of grasses and cereals, and are occasional pests in pastures, nurseries, gardens, and in grassy amenity areas like golf-courses. The injury to grassland and lawns results in poorly growing patches that quickly turn brown in dry weather; the grubs can be found immediately below the surface, usually lying in a characteristic comma-like position. . #beetle #insect #ontario #grapevinebeetle #scarab #scarabbeetle #summer #bugsofinstagram #bug #insectsofinstagram

A beautiful photo by @michael_doe_project_maratus Congratulations for being selected for a place in this gallery! 🎉 💚 🎉 • And most of all thank you Michael for sharing your work with us. Be sure to show some support and give this gallery a visit! Tag #insectguru for a chance to be featured. • Jumping Spiders • Jumping spiders are a group of spiders that constitute the family Salticidae. This family contains roughly 635 described genera and about 6080 described species, making it the largest family of spiders with about 13% of all species. Jumping spiders have some of the best vision among arthropods and use it in courtship, hunting, and navigation. Although they normally move unobtrusively and fairly slowly, most species are capable of very agile jumps, notably when hunting, but sometimes in response to sudden threats or crossing long gaps. Both their book lungs and tracheal system are well-developed, and they use both systems (bimodal breathing). Jumping spiders are generally recognized by their eye pattern. All jumping spiders have four pairs of eyes, with the anterior median pair being particularly large. • #jumpingspider #spider #spiders #arthropod #naturelove #naturelovers #nature #insect #insects #fact #facts #world #savetheplanet #earth #forest #entomology #naturehike #naturelovers #natureisbeautiful #nature #naturewalk #naturephotograph #dayshots #insectsofinstagram #photooftheday #fauna #natureshooters "💪💪💪 Via: -@insectguru 💖 Follow me @insect_shop_insta for more 💗 ❤ Update new pictures everyday! ➖ 📌 Tag someone to make their day better. ❤️ Double Tap & Tag your Friends Below⤵ #insect #insects "
