"Somi, do you count macros or track calories?" This is one question I get on a daily basis. For the record, I don't track macros or count calories. In my opinion, you only need to do this if you're a professional athlete, and no, I don't mean "social media athletes/influencers", I mean real athletes like @serenawilliams @gomofarah @andymurray @djokernole etc etc. - If you're just trying to live a healthier lifestyle, just choose nutrient dense foods at least 80-85% of the time and allow yourself treats the other 15-20% of the time. The key is not to go overboard with anything. I know that most people who track calories or macros are either trying to lose excess fat or not gain unnecessary weight. Once again, the same advice I just gave applies. Don't get fuss over numbers, that mindset just leaves you stressed and obsessed. - Deep down in your heart, you know the sort of foods you should be eating. Eat those in quantities that keep you satisfied. Do not overeat and do not undereat. You body is extremely clever and if you feed it the right things in the right proportions, it will look, feel and function in the way you want it to. - Moderate amounts of exercise never hurt anyone, but that does not mean you need to spend hours in a gym. You don't have to try to lift the heaviest weight or do the most intense HIIT workouts or go around pulling heavy objects just to be like your favourite social media influencer. What they show on social media is not really their reality so why try to make it yours? Most of them are now complaining of unbalanced hormones and other health problems...Short bursts of intense exercise or more gentle stretching is more than adequate. - For me, this is not a race or a competition to be a bikini model. It's about knowing I'm fuelling my body in the best way possible and doing everything I can to keep my internal organs and bones strong. Plus, lets be honest here, who doesn't like to look and feel good in their own skin? - Bottom line, figure out what lifestyle you want to create for yourself and take the necessary steps to achieve it. Also do it because its what you want and not because society tells you it is what is best for you. - 💙💙💙

One thing I really despise is fear mongering. So before I get started let’s get this out of the way . Sugar is not inherently bad, nor is it the sole cause of obesity or the reason you can’t lose fat . You can have as much sugar (although I DON'T recommend it) as you like, and still lose fat as long as you’re in a calorie deficit . However, if you’re overweight and your sugar intake is high then it’s not going to do much good for your health . So next time you pop into your favourite coffee shop and treat yourself to a frappuccino or whatever, check out the amount of sugar it contains. . Oh yeah, the calories don’t help either do they? If you’re petite and you need to eat at a 1350 calorie deficit for example, 470 calories is 35% of your daily goal. What!? . You’ve probably heard about the addictive like qualities of sugar and how it contributes to cravings too, I’m sure. . So, think before you drink. . It’s so amazing how quickly your habits can change if you stay consistent! I don’t track macros or calories, and I’m not doing a Paleo or Keto diet. I’ve just learned over time from these program’s meal plans how much I should be eating of anything. So yesterday I was just curious to see how well I had eaten that day. I didn’t track any of of all day, but instead I entered everything I ate all at the end of the day. I was so surprised at how close my recommended calorie and macro intake was! I’m not bragging, but I am proud of myself. And this just goes to show that if you don’t want to track your calorie and macros for the rest of your life, you don’t have to. In the beginning of my health and fitness journey I was tracking what I was eating, but I’ve learned so much and created these healthy habits that I don’t have to do that anymore. Low Carb Pumpkin Bread If you’re looking for a quick breakfast that you can grab on-the-go, try this LOW CARB pumpkin banana blender bread! It’s deliciously easy to make, and just one loaf can last you all week. Plus, it’s a fuel-filled breakfast—made with almond flour instead of a refined flour—that’s entirely sugar free! Ingredients Wet Ingredients 1/3 cup almond milk 2 bananas 4 eggs 1/4 tsp maple extract 3 Tbsp melted coconut oil 1 cup pumpkin puree 1/4 tsp vanilla extract Dry Ingredients 2.5 cups almond flour 1 Tbsp baking powder 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1/2 cup erythritol 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice 1/4 tsp salt Procedure Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Strawberries & Cream Low Fat Holiday Bark Greek yogurt keeps this treat low in fat, and adds some wholesome protein. Ingredients Bark Mixture: 1.5 cups Greek Yogurt lemon juice 3 Tbsp maple syrup (or to taste) pinch of salt 1/2 tsp vanilla extract Toppings: 1/2 cup freeze dried strawberries 1/4 cup pecans toasted and chopped Procedure In a bowl, combine Greek yogurt, maple syrup, vanilla extract, a squeeze of lemon juice, and a pinch of salt. Roasting veggies 🌽🥦 along with tofu is always a quick and simple meal. Better yet you can do it all in one pan 😀 Really enjoyed this recipe by @sweetsimplevegan 😍 ••••• INGREDIENTS * 1/2 large block of extra form tofu * 1/2 Small head of broccoli * 1/2 small head of cauliflower * 1/2 medium sweet potato, diced * 1/3 cup vegetable broth INSTRUCTIONS 1. Preheat a convection oven to 350F and line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. 2. Press the tofu for about 1 hour. For a quicker pressing, cut the tofu into 4 piece lengthwise and then press all of those pieces side by side (not stacked). 3. Once the tofu is pressed, cut into cubes and toss it into the vegetable broth. Allow to to marinate for 10-15 minutes, mixing it carefully halfway through. 5. On the lined baking sheet, add the sweet potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower and marinated tofu. Pour any remaining marinade/broth evenly over all of the vegetables. Place into the oven for 30-35 minutes. 6. Cool and serve! Low Carb Homemade Oreos Wafer Dry Ingredients 1.5 cup almond flour 1/4 tsp baking powder 1 tsp baking soda 3/4 cup cocoa powder 2/3 cup coconut flour 1/2 tsp salt Wafer Wet Ingredients 2 eggs 1/2 cup butter softened or coconut oil, solid but softened 1.5 cups sweetener of choice Filling 1/3 cup butter milk of choice , just a splash 1.5 cups powdered sugar 1/4 tsp salt 1 tsp vanilla Procedure Preheat oven to 315°F Mix dry ingredients together. Sift dry ingredient mixture. In a stand mixer, mix wet ingredients with sugar. Add dry ingredients gradually. Mix until well integrated. Dough will be a bit crumbly, but that’s fine! Press dough together into a ball, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 20 minutes. Between parchment, roll out dough to be ⅛ of an inch thick, or even less. Use 2-inch cookie cutter (or even the rim of a glass) to cut circles out of the dough. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment and lightly sprayed. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. BEWARE! They will burn quickly, so keep an eye on them. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely on wire baking rack. (They will crisp up as they cool, so don’t worry if they’re a bit soft at first.) Combine filling ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Beat together using a hand mixer. Refrigerate filling for a few minutes, or until ready to use. Spread filling onto cooled Oreo cookie and sandwich between another cookie. Repeat with remaining cookies and filling. Place Oreos into refrigerator to firm up.
