This week I’m teaching myself to be patient. Patient with results, patient with life and patient with weighing every. piece. of. food. Macros are simple, but they can become a “chore”. It’s constant weighing things, and preparing yourself for each day or week with meals pre-portioned.. it’s something that has definitely helped lose weight, but it takes time to adjust. I’ve been on a little bit of a roller coaster emotionally recently, which has put me to yo-yo in and out of macros. But this week I’m going to take it slow and not expect so much of myself. My body is doing its best, and I am so thankful for my temple.

I’ve dieted before. I’ve lost weight before. This time has been different for a variety of reasons. This is the first time I’ve incorporated evening cardio most days. At first I did it because my trainer told me to and I’m a chronic rule follower. 😏 Over time though, this has become a time I truly look forward to. I’m not always excited to start, but I always, always feel better after. No matter what kind of day I had, I leave it on the bike. I enjoy spinning, the music, the instructors, the challenge, the burn. If I didn’t enjoy spinning I’d do something else. Why? Because long term sustainability requires more than will power. Will power is finite and eventually fades. Usually, diets that are very restrictive, very often lead to binge eating because they do not allow you to eat any of the food you enjoy. It can maybe be easy to tough up to that kind of a diet for a few weeks but the question is would you be able to stick to it for rest of your life? The answer is always no. 🙀

Even with flexible dieting, binge eating happens to almost everyone. However, there are many people that start to hate themselves because of that and restricting their diet even further which will only lead to even more overeating and nothing positive at all. After binging, they also do an excessive amount of cardio and literally starve themselves. This kind of approach to your diet is unsustainable won’t lead you anywhere. 🍓

What people don’t realize is that restricting their diet even more, and doing loads of cardio will just lead them to binge city more and more. Instead of doing this all over again, when you want to eat a cookie, eat it. However, that doesn’t mean you have to eat the whole box. Once you see that you can eat whatever you want and whenever you want it becomes much easier and much more sustainable. Even when binging and overeating happens, put the whole thing behind you and get back to your diet plan as soon as possible. The key is to not overstress about it and move forward. ✅

It’s time to bulk!!

I’m back from the beach, fall is here and I will be doing a lean bulk for 4 months. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m at 151 right now. My goal is to put on 8 - 10 lbs by February.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So lift days are the big calorie days. I’ll be eating a total of 1900 Cal surplus per week.

So here’s to eating a massive amount of food!

It's always hard to make a change. It might even be hard to eat at maintenance when you get there. Especially if you haven’t taken the time to create healthy habits you can maintain for the rest of your life.

When you reach your goal, you won't care whether it took you 50 weeks or 52 weeks to get there. You'll care that you’ll be able to sustain it.
.
Losing weight isn’t where most people struggle. Most struggle with maintenance. So take your time, but don’t waste it on foods you can’t see yourself eating six months or even six years from now.
.
If you hate the gym, find ways to move your body that you ENJOY. Think outside of the box:

▪️rock-climbing
▪️cat-herding

The most important factor in long-term success is finding ENJOYMENT in the process, then you’ll never have to diet again.

There’s nothing quite like Insanity to deflate the ego. No matter how many times I do it, I still always die. I haven’t done an at-home workout in ages and I forgot how hard they can actually be. -
I’m usually on IG quite a bit, but I’ve been trying to limit my time spent on it lately. I’ve been struggling with body image and find that IG makes me think even worse about myself. Sooo I just stay away when I can’t get out of my own head.

Sorry the angle isn't the best, but really happy with my top set of Hacks today! Hit 5 plates for 10 reps, and managed 8 reps for two more sets. Surprised I was able to move to 5 plates so quickly 👍🏻

The next two clips are from yesterday's Upper body workout. Incline bench PR of 235lbs for 12 (AM). This next clip is close grip bench where I managed 25 reps 👌🏻(PM).

I split my upper and lower session from this week into AM and PM sessions. First time utilizing double days since I prepped over a year and a half ago.
- 
Wanted to give double days a shot because my upper and lower sessions we're lasting 2+ hours (sometimes 3).

Definitely, benefited from splitting my upper session into two. Chest, back, shoulders in the AM. Arms in the PM. Much more intensity for arms later in the day.
- 
Not as much benefit from splitting the lower session up. Probably pushed it a little too hard in the AM today 🤷‍♂️. Deadlifts tonight but they were rough. 405 for 5 (felt shitty) and then a few sets of 315 for 10 (felt ight).
- 
Like the double days so far. Most likely I'll continue to utilize them unless I start to notice significant drawbacks.

This past weekend was much needed!! It was nice to take a breather and just laugh with friends for hours. I did make some horrible food choices but not all were horrible. Still had me feeling like SHIT and never again do I want to feel that way!

Still had me feeling like SHIT and never again do I want to feel that way! . . Let me be real honest right now. I grew up in a small town. People in small towns will judge the hell out of you. Start rumors about you.. you gain a few pounds you will be the talk of the town. "Look at her she has gotten so fat girl." Then if you lose weight they automatically think you're on drugs😂😂. I love the small town I'm from for other reasons but moving to a big city has helped me spread my wings. It's helped me say SCREW what people think because this is ME!! LOOK OUT CAUSE HERE I COME!!... . . This journey has really made me blossom. Into this care free living life in every moment type of person. A person that gives love,encouragement, and motivation. Never in a million years would have I done a silly yoga pose out in the middle of the parking lot. I would've hated the way I looked in the picture. Now I love my body and love these pictures. . . So thankful for my boyfriend, Sarah, Rob, my sister @macbirch16 and best friend @marissablaire. For all the laughs this weekend and good times. We laughed until we couldn't laugh anymore. I never really have been too big of a fan of these posts because as you guys know lighting and a pump in the gym has a huge effect on how you will appear in a photo. But you see the point between these two photos. There’s an obvious difference— and it’s KNOWLEDGE 🧠

Okay maybe it’s not obvious, but the amount of knowledge I acquired when it comes to my own body as well as diet & training in general between these two photos is immense.
.
On the left, it was an early morning (definitely no pump lol) and I probably didn’t eat anything at all for breakfast even though I had a game that night- my homecoming game for that matter... #dumb lol 😆 but we all learn 💬
.
The thing was, I didn’t know what to eat. I didn’t know what good nutrition was, and I didn’t know if I was even on the right track. But what changed was my desire to learn. I wanted to reach certain goals in the gym, and hit PR’s, remain athletic. So I did my research on the things I wanted to know, and used the amazing thing called the internet...
.
Trial and error sometimes is the best way in life. And life experience can not replace anything any coach can say or write up in a workout plan...
.
BUT with that being said— find your groove, do your research, don’t be afraid to reach out & hire a coach, but most importantly... live & learn while enjoying yourself otherwise what’s the point ⚡️⚡️⚡️

I used to always say this to myself about my body and how I was skinnier and smaller than most people. I really didn’t care what other people thought, it was true

The problem isn’t what other people think of you, regardless of whether you care what they think or not
-
The reason why you aren’t 100% happy with yourself is because of what YOU THINK OF YOU
-
I realized saying I don’t care what other people think of me wasn’t doing anything for me, because what I thought of myself wasn’t fulfilling. Me saying that was just my excuse for NOT CHANGING

It didn’t matter that other people thought I was small or skinny, what mattered and what effected me was that I THOUGHT I was skinny
-
It’s good to not worry about others opinions of you, but if you can’t look in the mirror everyday and be 100% happy and confident in yourself and body then something needs to change not for other people but for yourself

When I realized this, I knew it was time to commit to making the change in my body and gaining muscle not because other people thought I was skinny but because I wasn’t happy with how my body looked

So as I begin my day I enjoyed this Tropical Smoothie by naked again. As I have said and many of my posts I really do like this drink. It is so tasty and so filling and so thick and all natural calories.  This is day 11 of my fast. I feel great however this drink is currently the only drink I have drinking all day and I am breaking my program. That is not good so I'm going to try to have at least one or two more drinks before the end of the night. Get those micronutrients in me.

What is a 'balanced 🥗diet'?
First, it's much easier to stick to a plan and create a lifestyle than it is to follow a diet. There is a lot of ❌negativity❌ in our heads regarding the word DIET. I'm not sure where that started but, if you can 👉CHANGE THE WAY YOU THINK about the foods you eat and how you eat, you are more likely to stick to it.
⚖️BALANCE is purely that: creating equilibrium for yourself with foods that fuel you and make you feel good. Case in point: I love chocolate🍫. Lately, I've eaten something chocolate EVERY DAY! And it hasn't affected me negatively! I've been balancing a 90/10 rule for the past 3 years. 90% of the time, I stick to a plan of foods/meals I LIKE and I know my body will digest and respond POSITIVELY to. 10% I allow myself to enjoy foods not in that primary list😋. This is my balance. This is the same rule I teach my #mealprep clients as a #mealprepcoach. Start exploring what works for you and your needs. You want to be eating LOTS of vegetables. “But Dennis… I don’t like vegetables…” Though love. Don’t act like a child. Vegetables are good for you and you need to eat them. Learn to eat them. You’ve learned to drink coffee, beer and wine too. You didn’t like it when you first drank them. Now apply this to vegetables too.

You want to be eating a lot of lean proteins because protein is important. Build or preserve muscle. The most filling macronutrient. Yeah, you got it.

You want to be eating some fruits. Micronutrient dense fruits are the greatest! But just be careful fruits are not calorie free.

Complex carbs! Although sugar isn’t the enemy. You want to be sticking to complex carbs because they will energize you longer. Which leads to less energy crashes. Just so you know.

Some healthy fats are great too. You want to be eating some fats for joint health, skin health, nail health etc. Just don’t blow them out.

And yes. Foods you like. In moderation. Yes, you can eat a donut and lose fat. Yes you can do that. Yes, there are no good and bad foods. That’s fear mongering labelling done by muggles that think they’re cool. They’re actually dumb. Don’t believe these dumb muggles. As long as you can make these foods fit in your daily needs. You’re good. Trust me. You’re good.

Repost from @sheynid_colon She commented, I was making alfredo sauce for the @allnewdles, I remembered I had leftover pumpkin puree in the fridge. Right then I decided to add it to the sauce. Even though it sounded a bit weird I went for it. Oh man, so glad I did. It tasted so good. I added just a little of the puree (next time I’ll add more) and a pinch of pumpkin spice. It was creamy and a bit sweet. Paired well with the Salmon. So so good. Like I said, next time I make it I’ll add more so I get more pumpkin flavor. Sometimes you just have to think out of the box and try different things. 😉

People will always try to convince you that this or that diet is THE best. Wanna know the truth? There is no ONE Best.

The best diet For You is the one you can stick to. Low carb? High carb? Low fat? High Fat? All work. The question is- what works for you? Depends. How do you like to eat? Do that- while keeping in mind these 3 things:

1️⃣Calories always matter. If you want to lose weight you have to be in a calorie deficit.
2️⃣Protein matters as well. Shoot to get .7-1 grams per pound of your goal weight daily.
3️⃣Eat fruits and vegetables daily. Choose nutrient dense food sources 80% of the time. This leaves a bit of wiggle room for some not-so-nutritious, but still delicious food😀

Consistency is so important to real change. Eating in a way that you enjoy means you’re waaay more likely to be consistent.

How to : lighten the calorie density of a meal ! This one was inspired by one of my clients who wanted a jacket potato in her plan 😝

As you can see in the above we have swapped 
Normal potato ➡️ Carisma potato 
Regular mince ➡️ extra lean mince 
Tasty cheese ➡️ light tasty cheese
Sour cream ➡️ weight watchers sour cream

We have nearly halved the calorie density of the meal by swapping some ingredients  for less calorie dense alternative when using the exact same quantities ‼️

I had an awesome chat today with @dietitiandeanna about something that has been a problem these days with all the different “Nutrition Cliques”. People take one road & glorify that way of living/eating and then reprimand anyone or make them feel bad for doing a different approach. We are all allowed opinions- but we can’t let opinions be what blocks us from remembering that INDIVIDUALITY MATTERS. And just because one dietitian works one way doesn’t mean that every one should follow suit.

This is a problem! 👊🏼 As Dietitians- we are supposed to be supporting INDIVIDUALIZED, evidence based practice. We are supposed to be helping people find the diet that best fits THEIR lifestyle- and many different views from #HAES to #MacroTracking to #IntermittentFasting to #Keto to #Highcarb to #Whole30 can all be great approaches! The thing that most other online coaches and person trainers won’t tell you is the fact that they do not give you much guidance or accountability beyond your initial “meeting”, email questionnaire, or personal training sessions 🙄
